Creating More Opportunities for Women in Transport
Since launching in 2018, Women at the Wheel has become a leading diversity and recruitment program, helping more women discover rewarding careers in public transport and the bus industry.
Designed to encourage women to explore opportunities they may never have previously considered, the program provides a pathway into stable, secure and meaningful employment. Whether participants are seeking a career change, returning to the workforce, looking for flexible work, or searching for a long-term career with growth opportunities, Women at the Wheel showcases the many pathways available at Ventura.
The success of the program has helped increase female representation across Ventura’s workforce to 16.5% — a significant achievement in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Through targeted recruitment, training and support, more women are choosing careers as bus drivers, mechanics, apprentices, operational leaders and corporate professionals.
Women at the Wheel has welcomed more than 300 women through its employment events, providing valuable insights into bus driver jobs, transport careers and employment opportunities for women across Melbourne. Participants have the opportunity to meet female drivers, hear real career stories, learn about paid training and licensing pathways, and experience firsthand what a career in public transport can offer.
As one of Victoria’s largest bus operators, Ventura is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. By creating more opportunities for women in transport, we are helping address industry skill shortages, strengthening our workforce and creating meaningful careers for future generations.
If you’re searching for a career that offers job security, flexibility, purpose and the chance to make a real difference in your community, Women at the Wheel could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
